Reflect in a blog post on your portfolio site on this experience of retaking a training because of new updates to a tool and on any feedback you have on the new training. How do you feel about needing to stay on top of new updates to tools you’ve already learned?

Thanks to my last Vivero project, I have experience with using the new version of ArcGIS. At the beginning, I think I was rushing through it because I thought I knew how to use it. I realized, however, that I should probably slow down and make sure I was getting everything and reading each word on the training document. There were some aspects I was able to jump right back into easily, like the configuring pop-ups section. I’m glad to have remembered that, and my fingers seemed to, too. Other aspects, like the “Effects” feature, felt kind of foreign to me. I don’t have a recollection of playing with this last semester; maybe it was there, maybe not. I’m not really familiar with ArcGIS too much to know what features they’re added and which not. Because these digital tools are so iterative on the maker’s side, I think having to stay on top of new updates is just a part of the job for digital humanists. While I don’t have many complaints with ArcGIS right now, I think these updates are things to remain alert and critical of (if needed).
