As a Vivero fellow, I am learning new digital tools. I will log my progress with blog posts like these. This is my first post. 

Today, my Vivero peers and I began our work for the new semester. We started off with configuring our domains and customizing a WordPress website. We are building off of a template supplied to us by our advisors.

This portfolio website will be a good opportunity for me to better understand and play with how to present my work and myself online. I get anxious about this because the internet is a sometimes scary place, but I hope to think critically about what arrangements I can make to develop a good online portfolio.

cPanel, which enables people to install various digital tools and configure personal domains, is still confusing to me due to how varied and multifaceted it is. I do think it’ll come with time and more tinkering that I’ll be able to better familiarize myself with it.

I do wonder how flexible WordPress is compared to building a website from scratch or alternate website development methods. In which digital situations would WordPress be most equipped and in which would other methods be better?

Knowing the basics of cPanel and WordPress (and I hope to build upon this initial knowledge) is something I can share with others. During peer mentoring sessions, I think my peers may find it beneficial to make their own portfolio websites to showcase their work, a project, and/or journeys.
