For my professional development, I have been learning more about the data platform and mapping software Social Explorer. This tool is beyond traditional Vivero training, but I thought it would be good to learn more about due to the interest my project has in the intersection between city demographic data and mapping. A part of the learning curve for Social Explorer is understanding which data sets will be the most helpful. My project is looking for city demographic data of different racial groups, but all the data sets I have access to have different measurements of place, like county. I met with Julia Bauder, who is a data services librarian and familiar with Social Explorer. I’m very grateful for my opportunity to meet with her, and she went through Social Explorer with me and showed me the possibility for doing something similar with ArcGIS.
