Reflect on the experience of inventorying the skills you have developed in Vivero. What new skills have your learned in Vivero? What existing skills have you expanded or strengthened? Were there any skills you realized you had that you hadn’t thought of before? What is one area you would like to build new or better skills in?

For the month of April, I decided to do the new training on how to put Vivero on a resume. Some new skills I learned in Vivero was how to use a range of digital tools, specially ArcGIS and WordPress. Some existing skills I expanded on was meeting with others, particularly my project lead, and presenting the work that I do. A skill I hadn’t thought of before was, as I could only most succinctly convey with the words “prototyped and experimented,” was perseverance to try again and again at using these tools and shaping a layout. The ability to iterate and still produce some sort of an outcome in the face of fear and roadblocks was not a skill I had consciously associated with Vivero but how I feel a good amount of my time here could be described. A big challenge I encountered in this task was finding action verbs beyond “created,” “developed,” and “implemented.” To me, these verbs kind of convey very similar shades of meaning and are not especially evocative. I think what is most special to me in digital humanities work is the act of doing. There are things I can point to and say that I contributed in making it, like an ArcGIS map for an online thesaurus. This exercise really pushed me to find those stronger verbs. One area I would like to build my skills in is project management. I feel I am not the best at planning out when I’m going to work on my project or how much progress I should be making, especially simultaneously with having to do school.
